PARTNERS IN PERFORMANCE
Sport and recreation should always be
"athlete
centered", meaning the efforts of all involved should be foremost to
provide
the opportunity for the athlete to learn and have fun.
This
required an array of partners working together for the athlete.
Some
of the key partners working together to provide that opportunity to
your
skater and their respective roles are:

Skate Canada

Skate Canada is largely self supporting with revenue coming from membership fees, test fees, investments, television rights, sponsorships and competition proceeds as well as government grants. Government support totals about 12% of the annual Skate Canada budget.
Skate Canada national office in Ottawa is run year-round by a full
time
staff who administer Skate Canada programs. The departments of
Skate
Canada are responsible for: coaching, national team, events
management,
marketing, public management, marketing, public relations, officials,
translation,
finance, club services/records and recreational skating.
Policy making is the responsibility of the Board of Directors.
The Board is comprised of a president (elected bi-annually), the
past-president,
three vice-presidents, eight nationally elected directors, thirteen
Section
chairpersons, two ISU representatives, two coaching representatives,
two
athlete representatives and one secretary-treasurer.
Skate Canada's role is to develop standardized programs for the development of skating, It is responsible for developing uniform rules for the sport, developing national programs such as Skating Unlimited, CanSkate, Precision Four Star Program, Test System, National Coaching Certification Program, Officials Training Program, National Team Program. Skate Canada also stages Canadian Championships and international competitions.
